Why do you write?

I have always loved romance books—since I was a teen—and I’ve always been a writer. What started as poems, short stories, and academic work slowly transitioned into writing fiction. Just before my birthday last year I decided to go all in and publish my debut novel!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I used bits and pieces from my everyday life, songs, local small town gossip—anything that inspires me get written down in the Notes app on my phone.

Any writing related tips you would like to share?

Reach out and make connections with other authors. Their friendship will be invaluable. When you need someone to bounce ideas off of or talk marketing strategies, they’ll be there for you. Also, get 2 or 3 solid beta readers that you trust. I wouldn’t be nearly as confident without their thoughtful feedback. Finally, spend the money on a great cover designer and editor. They’ll be worth every penny.

Any advice for new writers?

Do the damn thing! When I started, I had zero experience. I researched and tried to learn all I could. I’m still learning and loving the journey!

Anything else you would like to share about your writing or writing process?

I’m a total plantser – I know a few basic plot points or major events (plotter) but then I just wing my way through most of it (pantser). One thing that’s helped is to only reread the previous days writing so I don’t get hung up on self editing. It also helps to put me back into the right frame of mind for writing more.

Tell us about any hobbies?

Fishing, gardening, raising chickens & raising babies!

Any pets?

2 Australian cattle dogs

Favourite music genre and/or artist?

I love good ol’ Texas country music (my husband is from Texas!)

Favourite TV series?

Supernatural (that Dean Winchester—yummy)

Favourite food/meal?

I love street food—all ethnicities!

Favourite season?

What genre/s do you like to read?

I love steamy contemporary romance (which is why I wrote it!) but within that my favorite tropes are: small town, firefighters/cops/men in uniform, musicians, friends to lovers, & second chance.

What are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?

Last book I read was Falling for Temptation my MJ Hendrix (no relation but we are friends!)
