The Masks We Wear

Why do you write?

I’ve always said, “One day I will . . .”
One day is here!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

With my first book, the first line randomly appeared in my brain and wouldn’t go away. I had to see where it would lead me (total pantser). With the next books, I had minor characters in the first book that clamored for more attention.

Any writing related tips you would like to share?

Put something on the page, and tell yourself that you won’t ever show anyone. Clean it up as best you can. Take it to a writing group and force yourself to show it to them. Listen to what they say. Decide what you need to do to clean it up some more. Repeat.

Any advice for new writers?

In two years, you will be two years older. You can be two years older with a book you’ve written, or you can just be two years older. Work on it today.

Anything else you would like to share about your writing or writing process?

My process is in process. It is changing, but I’m learning to be okay with that because it works often enough to keep my happy.

Tell us about any hobbies?

I like to try new things. I hike some, quilt, I tried painting (tried is the operative word). I will fish or target shoot if the opportunity arises. I’ve tried snow shoeing, reupholstering furniture, and knitting. I can sew or embroider if I need to. I love houses–building, remodeling, decorating. Mostly I like to learn.

Any pets?

My husband is severely allergic. So, I write my pets.

Favourite music genre and/or artist?

Best word for me is eclectic:
I love Eva Cassidy, Stevie Wonder, the Eagles, John Mayer, 70’s classic rock, Pink, Ed Sheeran, and on and on.

Favourite TV series?

I love most BBC mini-series. Also police procedurals (Criminal Minds, Bones, Castle) Also light comedy (White Collar, Psych, Leverage).

Favourite food/meal?

Anything that someone else cooks (you’ll note there is no cooking in my hobbies list). I also like when someone else cleans up after.

Favourite season?

Fall. Where I live Spring is a tease, but Autumn is a long string of perfect days and cool evening breezes.

What genre/s do you like to read?

Romance, Fantasy, Mystery, YA, Suspense

What are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?

Recent: Ilona Andrews’ Blood Heir
Current: I’m trying to read a lot of other Regency romance authors–market research

Any book recommendations?

Romance: Mine. Or I love Laura London
Fantasy: Juliet Marillier’s Daughter of the Forest
Mystery: I thought Eileen Dreyer’s medical mysteries were fun. Dick Francis is a classic.

Do you have a favourite author?

But here are three that I do love:
Chaim Potok
Gerard Manley Hopkins
Patricia McKillip
